Games Club

Games Club

Games club is an opportunity for children to learn how to play board games and to escape from the busy goings on of their daily lives. It is made up of children from 3rd to 5th class and this year we had 39 children take part. We run it in two blocks of five weeks, one block before Christmas and one after Christmas. The children have a choice of a wide range of games to choose from and get the opportunity to socialise with other children from other classes. Board games are enriched with a wide range of learning opportunities also. They satisfy the children’s natural competitive nature and the desire to master new skills and ideas, including, number and shape recognition, grouping, and counting, letter recognition and reading, visual perception and color recognition, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Just by virtue of playing them, board games can teach important social skills, such as communicating verbally, sharing, waiting, taking turns, and enjoying interaction with others. Board games can foster the ability to focus, and lengthen your child’s attention span by encouraging the completion of an exciting, enjoyable game.
